Grapes of Wrath Essay

This essay should be from 3-4 pages in length typed.   Longer or shorter than that and it will be docked.  Due date Dec. 14.  2% penalty for each day late.  25% six plus one writing traits, 75% on the 10 items listed below will be the grading criteria.

  1. The first half page needs to be a summary of the movie.
  2. Describe the (Place) Salisaw, Oklahoma.  Answer-What is it like there?  Give both the absolute and relative locations of Salisaw, Oklahoma.  Give the Geographical Regions of Salisaw and Pixley
  3. Compare and contrast Salisaw, from the place in California where they picked peaches.
  4.  (Infer)  Why do you think the people were less and less friendly to the Oakies as they moved west?
  5. (Analyze)   Why was the tractor an end to the way of life the Joads had known in Oklahoma?  (Support) how the tractor and the Geographical theme “Human Environmental Interaction” brought on the movement of People from Oklahoma to California?
  6. How were the Oakies worse off than the black slaves in America before the civil war?  How were they better off?
  7. (Support)  How could this statement be true?  Sometimes technology can hurt people more than help them.  Refer to things that took place in the movie.
  8. (Analyze)  What was Tom Joad trying to tell us in his “I’ll be there” Soliloquy at the end of the Movie?
  9.  Predict what you think happened to Muley, Tom Joad, and Ma and Pa Joad.
